POST-STALIN SOVIET ERA

Prior to Stalin’s reign, the Soviet Politburo was the most powerful governing body of the Soviet Communist Party, and dominated the Russian government. During Stalin’s tyrannical reign, he implemented economic plans that led to rapid industrialization and agricultural collectivization, leading to a centralized government. Despite his many atrocities, Stalin was immensely popular, known as the hero who drove back the Nazis during WWII and made the nation a global superpower.

In March of 1953, Stalin died, leaving a massive power vacuum that must be filled. As of now, tensions within the Politburo party are still high, and there is great unrest among the Soviet citizenry. As members of the Soviet Politburo, delegates will be tasked with aiding the struggling people of the Soviet Union, restoring trust in the Politburo government, filling the power vacuum left by Stalin's death, and ensuring the long-term success of the Soviet Union in a post-Stalin world.

Delegates will be expected to navigate their roles within a hybrid specialized committee. Debate will alternate between a traditional general assembly format and elements taken from crisis committees.
