STABILIZING AND EXPANDING THE KALMAR UNION
Welcome to our Nordic Empire! The Kalmar Union reigned in Scandinavia from 1397 to 1523. It joined under a single monarch which represented the three kingdoms of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway along with Norway’s colonies. This committee takes place in the year 1400, after the Union has been formed. During this time, many internal conflicts were present with different ethnicities vying for resources and power.
This Specialized Committee has two topics. Topic A will address ways to stabilize the Kalmar Union among all of its different nations as they try to vie for power, territory and money. Various struggles for autonomy and centralization have created disturbances throughout the Union. Topic B centers around the empire’s growing need for resources. Delegates will need to navigate how to expand their borders to become a global superpower.
In this era, you all must face and come up with cohesive and efficient solutions. Delegates are encouraged to consider the individual and overarching demands of its nations and citizens.
