NAVIGATING THE ROAD TO THE 2028 OLYMPIC GAMES
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LA28) is responsible for planning and executing the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a privately funded organization, LA28 coordinates venues, logistics, international delegations, and regional security to deliver a modern global sporting event.
With only a month until the Games, intense controversy threatens to derail the event. Los Angeles faces international scrutiny as its leaders struggle to address an escalating unhoused crisis and ongoing encampment clearings near key venues. Activist coalitions have rallied public support to cancel or boycott the Games, citing wasteful municipal spending during severe heatwaves and economic displacement. Housing rights protests, venue blockades, and rising security concerns have plunged the committee into crisis.
Delegates must (1) formulate an immediate response that weighs the Games' socioeconomic impact, (2) implement measures to ensure venue security and safety, (3) work with city leadership to negotiate agreements with activist coalitions to address homelessness, and (4) manage public relations to maintain stability during the 30-day countdown.
