EQUITABLE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY AND CONSEQUENCES OF MISINFORMATION

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized UN body that focuses on securing global peace through forming connections among nations through education, science, culture, and communication. Part of the role of UNESCO is to promote press freedom and monitor misinformation.

In an age where almost all news is consumed through various social media platforms, inequity in the access to technology has left countries in the dark. In this Specialized Committee, delegates are challenged to assess both the opportunities and challenges arising from the global media use. Delegates will be asked to (1) address equitable access to technology, as well as (2) discuss how to manage the use of AI and potential repercussions regarding misinformation spreading across social media platforms.
